Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District April 8, 2024 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Rachel Jacobson, Jason Schneider, Absent: Danette Miller, Cindy March Administration: Mike Pardun, Superintendent, Scott Larson, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Andrea Gurney, Principal Others Present: Jen Hibma, Gretchen Gosch Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobson, second by Jason Schneider, to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Unanimous approval. Personnel Report Resignations- None b) Appointments- Jason Schneider moved to approve the appointment of McKenzie Weiss, Guidance Counselor. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Schneider, Jacobson, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. SEA Report – Jen Hibma reported that the SEA continues to celebrate the building’s support people. The applications are out for the SEA Scholarship. Public Hearing on Schleswig Community School District fy25 Budget-President Gurney called the Public Hearing to order at 5:32 pm. The board presented the proposed Schleswig Community School District fy25 Budget for public review and discussion. There being no oral or written comments or objections, President Gurney closed the public hearing at 5:33 pm. Superintendent Report Approval of Schleswig CSD fy25 Budget – Rachel Jacobson moved to approve the Schleswig CSD fy25 Budget. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Jacobson and W. Gurney. Nays: Jason Schneider. Motion Carried. b) Adopt Resolution 482024 Levying a Tax for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 for Future Optional Redemption of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2014 – Rachel Jacobson presented Resolution 482024 Levying a Tax for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 for Future Optional Redemption of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2014, and moved to adopt it. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Jacobson and W. Gurney. Nays: Jason Schneider. Motion Carried. c) Approval of TLC Positions for the 2024-2025 School Year – Rachel Jacobson moved to approve the TLC Positions for the 2024-2025 School Year. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Jacobson and W. Gurney. Nays: Jason Schneider. Motion Carried. d) First Reading of Board Policies: 405.2 Licensed Employee Qualifications, Recruitment, Selection-411.2 Classified Employee Qualifications, Recruitment, Selection-507.8R1 Special Health Services Regulation-704.1 Local, State, Federal Miscellaneous Revenue-704.6 Fundraising Within the District-706.1 Payroll Periods-706.2 Payroll Deductions-706.3 Reduction in Employee Pay-706.3R1 Reduction in Employee Pay Regulation-707.1 Presentation and Publication of Financial Information-707.4 Audit – Rachel Jacobson moved to approve the first reading of the aforementioned policies. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Jacobson, Schneider, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. e) Discussion HF 2612-AEA Reform, SSA, and Teacher Pay – Mr. Pardun explained HF 2612. Schleswig CSD will see $19,615 in fy25 for media and educational services that previously went to NWAEA. Adjustments have been made to meet the salary guidelines. f) Open Enrollment Transportation – A discussion was held about allowing open enrolled out students from Schleswig going to Denison to be allowed to ride the Schleswig bus to Denison. A discussion was held about the current Schleswig bus that goes into Kiron, which is located in the Denison district. Discussions will be ongoing about MS staffing, programming, and student achievement. g) Administrator Update- Mrs. Gurney shared: -Looking for new fundraising opportunities—much discussion ensued -ISASP tests start tomorrow -Joyce Peterson memorials are designated for the Arts programs -May 2—Elementary Spring Concert -May 10—1st/2nd Grade Mother’s Tea -Plans for 8th Grade Play & Field Trip are underway h) Next Regular Meeting-The next regular board meeting will be held on May 13, 2024 at 5:30 pm. Adjournment-There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 6:18 pm.
