Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District October 9, 2023 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Cindy March, Jason Schneider Absent: Danette Miller, Rachel Jacobson Administration: Mike Pardun, Superintendent, Scott Larson, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Andrea Gurney, Principal Others Present: Sylvia Friedrichsen Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Jason Schneider, second by Cindy March, to approve the consent items with the addition of Approval of Audit Proposal to the current agenda (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Unanimous approval. Personnel Report a) Resignations- None b) Appointments- None c) Personnel List for 2023-2024 School Year-A motion was made by Jason Schneider to approve the Personnel List for 2023-2024 school year. Second by Cindy March. Ayes: Schneider, March, and W. Gurney. Motion Carried. SEA Report – Sylvia Friedrichsen reported that the SEA recently celebrated the lunch ladies, they are making plans for Boss’s Day on the 16th and meals have been planned for P/T conferences. Public Hearing on Renewal of Whole Grade Sharing Agreement with Denison CSD-President Gurney called the Public Hearing to order at 5:33 pm. There being no oral or written comments or objections, President Gurney closed the public hearing at 5:34 pm. Superintendent Report a) Discussion on IASB Convention and Delegate Assembly- Mr. Pardun reminded the board of the upcoming IASB Convention and Delegate Assembly, November 15 and 16, 2023. b) Discussion on Certified Enrollment – Mr. Pardun and Mr. Larson presented data on the current year enrollment to the board. c) Approval of Board Policy #503.08 Discipline of Students Who Make Threats of Violence or Cause Incidents of Violence – Mr. Pardun explained the new policy to the board. Jason Schneider moved to waive the second reading of this policy. Second by Cindy March. Ayes: Schneider, March, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. Cindy March then moved to approve Board Policy #503.08 Discipline of Students Who Make Threats of Violence or Cause Incidents of Violence. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: March, Schneider, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. d) Approval of Request to School Budget Review Committee for Modified Allowable Growth and Supplemental Aid for Special Education Balance – Cindy March moved to approve request to the School Budget Review Committee for Modified Supplemental Amount and Supplemental Aid for the 2022-2023 Special Education Program deficit of $90,381.42, or as determined by the Iowa Department of Education following DE audit review. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: March, Schneider, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. e) Administrator Update- Mr. Larson shared the initial financial update on the Calf Show Day Food stand President Gurney gave a special thank you to Danette & Robert for all their efforts with the food stand. Mrs. Gurney shared: -MS Football and Volleyball are finishing up -Oct. 19th Celebrate Creativity -Oct 20th is the end of 1st quarter and P/T conferences will be happening -Fundraiser is finishing up -Walmart donated many school supplies President Gurney shared that a $3000 grant from Monogram had been received for school supplies. f) Next Regular Meeting-The next regular board meeting will be held on November 13, 2023 at 5:30 pm. Adjournment-There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 5:57 pm.
