Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District September 11, 2023 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Danette Miller, Cindy March, Jason Schneider Absent: Rachel Jacobson Administration: Mike Pardun, Superintendent, Scott Larson, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Andrea Gurney, Principal Others Present: Terra Winey Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Jason Schneider, second by Danette Miller, to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Unanimous approval. Personnel Report a.) Resignations- None b) Appointments- None SEA Report – Terra Winey reported that the SEA will vote for new officers every 2 years going forward. This year’s officers include: President-Sylvia Friedrichsen; Vice-President-Sally Abbe-Sonnichsen; Secretary-Jennifer Hibma; Treasurer-Cindy Stoppel & Rianna Furne. Many activities are planned with a Hawk Apparel Fundraiser coming soon. Superintendent Report a) Set Hearing Date, Time, and Location for Public Hearing to Renew Whole Grade Sharing Agreement with Denison CSD (5:30 pm on October 9, 2023, at the Schleswig Community Schools in the District Conference Room at 714 Date Street, Schleswig, IA) – Jason Schneider moved to set hearing date, time, and location for Public Hearing to Renew Whole Grade Sharing Agreement with Denison CSD (5:30 pm on October 9, 2023, at the Schleswig Community Schools in the District Conference Room at 714 Date Street, Schleswig, IA). Second by Cindy March. Ayes: Schneider, March, Miller, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. b) Approval of Preschool Contract for the 2023-2024 School Year – Cindy March moved to approve the preschool contract with Immanuel Lutheran for the 2023-2024 school year. Motion Carried. d) Approval of Crawford County Conference Board Representative – Jason Schneider moved to appoint Rachel Jacobson as the Crawford County Conference Board Representative. Second by Danette Miller. Ayes: Schneider, Miller, March, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. e) Approval of Alternate Bus Routes for 2023-2024 – Danette Miller moved to approve the alternate bus routes for the 2023-24 school year. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Miller, Schneider, March, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. f) Approval of Out of State Trip to Omaha for 7th and 8th Grade-Celebrate Creativity—Jason Schneider moved to approve the out of state trip to the Omaha. Second by Cindy March. Ayes: Schneider, March, Miller, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. g) Discussion on Schleswig Calf Show Days Celebration – Danette Miller shared staffing/shift concerns. h) Administrator Update – Mrs. Gurney shared: -MS Sports---11 boys are out for football 4 girls are participating in volleyball - Esports—plans are still in progress -Fundraiser—currently ongoing until this Friday -School is off to a good/fast start Mr. Pardun shared: -School Board election is this fall—papers are due Thursday, September 21 at 5 pm i) Next Regular Meeting-The next regular board meeting will be held on October 9, 2023 at 5:30 pm. Adjournment-There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 5:58 pm.
