AGENDA: I. Opening of Meeting President Wimmer declared a quorum and called the meeting to order at 7:11 PM. Communications A. Public Forum Crista Else invited all board members to a Welcome Back meal sponsored by the MVAO Education Association on Tuesday, August 22nd at noon at the high school. Mrs. Else also asked about the December 11th date for potential date for district holiday concert and that being a currently scheduled in-service day with no students. Mr. Thelander said that the administration will work with fine arts staff to finalize the date for that concert. B. Correspondence - none Consent Agenda Streck moved and Schram seconded to approve the consent agenda. 5 ayes. Motion carried. Employee Resignations/Contract Modifications/Hirings Kennedy moved and Streck seconded to approve the following contract hirings and resignations: Hires: David Kovarna, Head High School Volleyball Coach; Makenzie Smith, Assistant Middle School Volleyball Coach;Kathy Scholl, Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach; Jacob Burger, Middle School Athletic Director; Marie Whiteing, 7th/8th Language Arts Teacher for 1st semester; Dawn Drees, Special Education Teacher, Anthon Building JoLynn Reimert, Long-Term Sub, 6th Grade, 1st semester; Mona Barringer, Cook in Mapleton building; Tara Castle, Cook in Mapleton building. Resignations: Karen Kueny, paraeducator; Nicole Vanderplas, paraeducator; and Taylor Berg (pending written resignation, Head Volleyball Coach). 5 ayes. Motion carried. B. Review of Board Policy Updates - Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve board policy 503.7. 5 ayes. Motion carried. C. IASB Priority List 23-24 - Hamman moved and Schram seconded to approve the following priorities for IASB 2023-2024 platform: Teacher Quality, Student Achievement, School Funding, School Safety, and Mental Health. 5 ayes. Motion carried. D. Facilities Project for Athletic Complex - Streck moved and Kennedy seconded to table for further discussion projects to plan for updates to high school track/softball areas and retaining wall at the high school. Further discussion will continue at the September meeting. 5 ayes. Motion carried. E. Curriculum Purchase - Schram moved and Kennedy seconded, to invest $12,000 in technology improvements to the business classroom in the high school. 5 ayes. Motion carried. V. Discussion Items A. Superintendent’s Report - Mr. Thelander walked through new legislation and impact on updates to school board policies that will be recommended for board approval in September. VI.
