MAPLE VALLEY-ANTHON OTO COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Monday, September 11, 2023 7:00 PM Board Room, Mapleton, Iowa AGENDA: I. Opening of Meeting Board President Wimmer called the meeting to order and declared a quorum at 7:00 PM. Present: Wimmer, Streck, Kennedy, Hamann, Schram, and 16 guests including many students from government and FFA. II. Communications Mrs. Else asked the board if the two seats up for election are seeking reelection. Both Schram and Streck have filed their school board petitions to be on the ballot. The last day to file papers to be on the ballet is 9/21/23 at 5:00 PM. Mr. Jon Wimmer, Lizzy Hamann, Margo McMillen, and Sophia Schumacher presented about the FFA summer activities including the summer trip. III. Consent Agenda Streck moved and Hamann seconded to approve the consent agenda. 5 ayes. Motion carried. General $200,385.78; Management $2,331.23; Activity $22,813.89; Hot Lunch $1,549.22; Infrastructure $142,929.75; Extra & Hourly Pay $51,848.02 IV. Continuation of New School Year Business A. Appointment and Swearing in of School Board Secretary/Treasurer – Shona Klingensmith was sworn in as the school board secretary/treasurer. B. Designation of School District Depository Banks as per Policy 701.1 – Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to approve policy 701.1 as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. V. Action Items A. Employee Resignations/Contract Modifications/Hiring – Hamann moved and Streck seconded to approve the following hirings: Nina Villamora (HS Biology) – pending final paperwork approval; Morgan Hoy (para); Cierra Francavilla (para); Samantha Sadler (para); Coni Miller (para); Riley Putzier (para); Jacob Burger (RamCast); Stephanie Petersen (social media); Lexi Weber (dance); Lea Tirevold (cheer); to increase sub bus driver to same per diem as contracted driver, and to compensate Chuck Porter for his extra hours driving a bus route. 5 ayes. Motion carried. B. Fund Raising Activities for 2023-2024 – Kennedy moved and Schram seconded to approve the fund raising activities as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. C. Appointments: Wimmer appointed the following: 1. Legislative Action Representative/IASB Delegate Assembly Representative- Dale Wimmer 2. County Conference Board Representative - Karen Kennedy – Monona and Jeremy Schram – Woodbury 3. Homeless Liaison Coordinator- Mistaya Hoefling D. Appointment of Student Representative for 2023-2024 School Year – Streck moved and Hamann seconded to appoint the student body president and the student council president as the 23-24 student representatives. 5 ayes. Motion carried. E. Approve Operational Sharing Positions with COU for 23-24 – Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve the operation sharing positions with COU for the 23-24 school year as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. F. Classified Staff Compensation – Streck moved and Hamann seconded to raise starting wages to $13/hour for paras and cooks; $14/hour for secretaries; and $15 for custodians, and also to give current staff a $1.50/hour raise; 20 + year employees a $2.25/hour raise and supervisory positions a $2.50/hour raise. 5 ayes. Motion carried. G. Board Policy Approval – Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to approve policies 402.2 and 900 series. 5 ayes. Motion carried. H. Lawnmower Purchase – Kennedy moved and Streck seconded to approve the purchase of a new mower for the Anthon building. 5 ayes. Motion carried. I.
