MAPLE VALLEY-ANTHON OTO COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Monday, November 20, 2023 7:00 PM High School Library, Mapleton, Iowa Present: Wimmer, Streck, Hamann, Kennedy, and Schram Absent: None Others: Approximately 29 guests, including many government students. AGENDA: I. Opening of Meeting President Wimmer called the meeting to order and declared a quorum at 7:09 PM. II. Communications A. Public Forum – Dave Jensen addressed the board regarding cell phone policies and Crista Else asked the board about the custodial and TAG positions open in the Anthon building. B. Correspondence – the Board reflected on their time at IASB Convention, sharing the highlights of the sessions they attended. III. Consent Agenda - Hamann moved and Streck seconded to approve the consent agenda. 5 ayes. Motion carried. General $399,575.58; Management $1,704.82; PPEL $2,500; Activity $44,761.12; Hot Lunch $33,033.35; Infrastructure $43,172.50; Extra & Hourly $134,506.99. IV. Review of Official Report of School Election Votes - School Board Secretary – Klingensmith reviewed the canvas of votes, named Jeremy Schram and Laurie Streck duly elected, and swore them in. President Wimmer adjourned the meeting at 7:33 PM. NEW BOARD MEETING AFTER 2023 SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION I. Opening of Meeting - President Wimmer called the meeting to order at 7:34 PM. Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to nominate Wimmer as President. 5 ayes. Motion carried. Kennedy moved and Schram seconded to nominate Streck as Vice-President. 5 ayes Motion carried. Klingensmith gave the Oath of Office to Wimmer and Streck. II. Action Items A. Employee Resignations/Contract Modifications/Hiring – Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve the resignations of Mona Barringer (cook); Erika McGrain (HS Secretary); David Kovarna (HS Head Volleyball); and Jordan Scholl (MS Asst Football); and the hiring of Paige Landwehr (MS Head Track); Sherrie Yockey (MS Asst Track); Derek Dougherty (HS Head Softball); Katelynn Mullin (HS Asst. Softball); Jenna Cloud (HS Asst. Softball); Dan Dougherty (HS Head Baseball); Rob Paulsen (HS Asst. Baseball); and Amos Parr (HS Asst. Boys’ Golf). 5 ayes. Motion carried. B. SBRC Allowable Growth- Schram moved and Streck seconded to approve the SBRC allowable growth for $103,351. 5 ayes. Motion carried. C. SBRC Special Education Adjustment – Hamann moved and Kennedy seconded to approve the SBRC Special Education increase to $169,626.81. 5 ayes. Motion carried. D. Policy 210.2-Regular Meeting Time – Streck moved and Hamann seconded to approve policy 210.2 with no changes, keeping the regular board meeting on the 2nd Monday of the month, unless there are conflicts. 5 ayes. Motion carried. E. Appointment of Facilities Committee – Schram moved and Hamann seconded to appoint Harry Buck, Sam Hanson, Jordan Scholl, Jacob Burger, David Kovarna, Brian Smeltzer, Crista Else, Lee Petersen, Taylor Jansen, Jeremy Schram, and Karen Kennedy to the facilities committee. 5 ayes. Motion carried. F. Policy 605.3 Supplementary Documents – Kennedy moved and Hamann seconded to approve the policy 605.3 supplementary documents for use when requesting for reconsideration of curriculum or library materials. 5 ayes. Motion carried, G. Negotiations Representatives – Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to appoint Wimmer and Streck to the board negotiations committee. 5 ayes. Motion carried. H. SIAC Committee – Kennedy moved and Schram seconded to appoint Hamann and Streck as SIAC committee members. 5 ayes. Motion carried. I. Library/Instructional Resources Review Committee – Hamann moved and Streck seconded to approve the following members to serve on the Library/Instructional Resources Committee: Angie Oberreuter, Darla Lloyd, Taylor Jansen, Bethany Mallory, Mistaya Hoefling, Jen Kinsey, and Jeff Thelander. 5 ayes. Motion carried. J. Ram Ball 2023-2024 – Streck moved and Schram seconded to approve permission for the Ram Ball to be operated by members of the MVAO Foundation. 5 ayes. Motion carried. III.
