MAPLE VALLEY-ANTHON OTO COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Monday, March 11, 2024 7:00 PM Library, MVAOCOU High School, Mapleton, IA Present: Wimmer, Streck, Kennedy, Schram, and Hamann (all present) Others: 22 guests including several government class students AGENDA: Opening of Meeting – President Wimmer called the meeting to order and declared a quorum at 7pm Communications A. Public Forum – Mr. and Mrs. Scholl addressed the board regarding the possibly of adding a MS golf program. MS is not allowed to compete but can learn the basic techniques of golf. The board would like them to move forward with this. Correspondence Presentation of Proposed School Calendar for 2024-2025 School Year – President Wimmer opened the school calendar hearing at 7:18. Mr. Thelander went over the proposed calendar and answered questions. President Wimmer closed the public hearing at 7:35. III. Consent Agenda – Kennedy moved and Hamann seconded to approve the consent agenda. 5 ayes. Motion carried. General $206,002.04; PPEL $650; Activity $19,572.60; Hot Lunch $26,685.10; Infrastructure $22,070.03; E/H Pay $147,263.17. Action Items A. Employee Resignations/Contract Modifications/Hirings- this item was moved to the end of the meeting after the exempt session. Streck moved and Hamann seconded to approve the following: Resignations: Dennis Miller (Industrial Technologies Teacher), Kori Kahl( 6th Grade Teacher and Technology Integrationist), Justin Kahl (2nd Grade Teacher and Coach) Christa Blake (JH Girls’ Head Basketball Coach), and Jessica Bruhn (JH Girls’ Assistant Basketball Coach); the hiring of Graig McElmuray as Industrial Technology teacher, and Alex Brown as Science Teacher; and to approve 5 sick and 1 personal day for our two long term subs in the Middle School. 5 ayes. Motion carried. B. Budget Presentation – Set 2 Budget Hearings for April 8th and 22nd – Shona Klingensmith presented the 24-24 proposed budget and answered questions. Schram moved and Streck seconded to set the public budget hearings for April 8th (7:00 pm in Anthon) and April 22nd (7:00pm in Mapleton). 5 ayes. Motion carried. C. 2024-2025 School Calendar – Kennedy moved and Schram seconded to approve the 24-25 calendar as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. D. Board Policy Review – Hamann moved and Streck seconded to approve policies 705.1, 705.1R1, 705.1R2 and 505.8 as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. E. Budget Guarantee for FY 2025 – Streck moved and Schram seconded to approve the budget guarantee resolution for $194,509 for the 2024-2025 school year. 5 ayes. Motion carried. F. Mapleton Elementary Gym Scoreboards – Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to approve the donation of our two current scoreboards in the elementary gymnasium to the MVAO Boosters for the purpose of auctioning them at the Ram Ball on March 23, 2024. 5 ayes. Motion carried. G. Contract Renewal with Rick’s Computers – Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve the service contract with Rick’s for the 2024-2025 school year. 5 ayes. Motion carried.
