MONONA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING JUNE 17, 2025 The Monona County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. o’clock on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in the boardroom of the courthouse in Onawa, Monona County, Iowa with Chairman Fox presiding. Other Supervisors present: Tom Brouillette and Vince Phillips. Supervisor Absent: None. Also present was Deputy Auditor Sheri Streeter. Motion was made by Supervisor Fox, seconded by Supervisor Brouillette to approve the agenda. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette, and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion carried. Jim Wigton, IT Director, was present to discuss selling old equipment. There was also discussion about the EMA battery backup equipment, no action taken. Kevin Ewing, Sheriff, was present for approval to purchase a 2015 Dodge Charger from Rusty Collison that was used as a patrol car for the City of Blencoe. The vehicle will be fully equipped. Motion was made by Supervisor Fox, seconded by Supervisor Phillips to purchase 2015 Dodge Charger from Rusty Collison for $8,000 pending vehicle inspection and will pay the City of Blencoe $500 for the equipment in the vehicle. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette, and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion carried. Secondary Roads Engineer Charles Bechtold, Secondary Roads Office Manager Deleta Huffman were present for Secondary Roads business. Motion was made by Supervisor Brouillette, seconded by Supervisor Fox to award the fuel contract to Sexton Oil Company for $0.05 over the rack rate. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion Carried. Motion was made by Supervisor Fox, seconded by Supervisor Phillips to award the salt contract to Blackstrap for $68.99 per ton. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion carried. Motion was made by Supervisor Phillips, seconded by Supervisor Brouillette to approve external posting for Operator II in the Soldier shed. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette, and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion carried. Discussion items were the grant application from the snowstorm, 2nd annual Summit meeting in Denison, Paul Assman presenting, Diamond Vogel finished painting last week, advertising for painting the maintenance sheds, Facebook page and signs that need to be cleaned up around, no action taken. RESOLUTION 2025-13 FOR ABATEMENT OF CERTAIN PROPERTY TAXES Supervisor Phillips introduced and moved for adoption the following Resolution, seconded by Supervisor Brouillette: RESOLUTION 2025-13 RESOLUTION FOR ABATEMENT OF CERTAIN PROPERTY TAXES WHEREAS, the Monona County Board of Supervisors has been advised by the Monona County Assessor that a correction, due to an error in assessment, is needed and WHEREAS, the administration, in accordance with Chapter 443.19 states that no failure of the owner to have such property assessed or to have the errors in the assessment corrected, the County Assessor has asked the Board to abate the taxes by resolution. BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED per Iowa Code 427.10 that a portion of the 2020-2021 taxes to be collected in 2021 ñ2023 totaling $773 concerning parcel LNWM #8346-17-2-99-009 owned by Ken Schaefer are hereby abated. Passed and approved this 17th day of June 2025. The recommendation was that Randy Ping and Jim Wigton run the initial wiring to the Assessor’s Office. The Assessor’s Office will need to get a bid for the additional wiring. The Assessor’s Office will pay for the expenses of the additional wiring. Jim Wigton was not present, no action taken. Motion was made by Supervisor Brouillette, seconded by Supervisor Fox to approve the minutes of June 10, 2025, and June 12, 2025, as read. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette, and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion carried. Motion was made by Supervisor Phillips, seconded by Supervisor Brouillette to approve claims. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette, and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion carried. Supervisor Fox attended the Monona County Conservation meeting. He shared the information presented. Motion was made by Supervisor Phillips, seconded by Supervisor Brouillette to approve the change order #2 with Walker Brothers Roofing, LLC. Vote on motion: Ayes: Fox, Brouillette, and Phillips. Nays: None. Motion carried. It was moved by Supervisor Fox, seconded by Supervisor Brouillette to hereby adjourn at the hour of 11:03 a.m. o’clock.
