Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District June 8, 2026 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobson, Danette Miller (arrived late), Trevor Nemitz, Ross Wood (arrived late) Administration: Kim Buryanek, Andrea Gurney, Mallory Meyer Others Present: Cindy Stoppel Correspondence: A thank you note was received from the 8th grade class. Ross Wood arrived at 12:01 pm. Consent Items – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Trevor Nemitz to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, financial reports) and to move the open enrollment request from the consent items to the end of the Superintendent’s Report. Motion carried 4-0. Danette Miller arrived at 12:04 pm. Personnel Report a) Resignations- Ross Wood moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobson to approve the resignation of Sandra Lundt, Middle School Teacher. Motion carried 5-0. b) Appointments- Danette Miller moved, seconded by Trevor Nemitz to approve the appointments of Heather Berkenpas, Middle School Teacher and Kristen Young, 2nd Grade Teacher. Motion carried 5-0. Superintendent Report a) Approve 2026-27 Employee Handbook – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the handbook as presented. Motion carried 5-0. b) Award Milk Bid to Anderson Erickson Dairy – Ross Wood moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobson to approve the milk bid from Anderson Erickson Dairy for 2026-27. Motion carried 5-0. c) Discuss Legislative Priorities for 2027 – The Legislative Priorities are available for Board members to review. Action will be taken at an upcoming meeting to set the priorities. d) Discuss Calf Show Days Food Stand – The District is looking for someone to run the Food Stand this year. A stipend of $500 will be offered to the organizer. e) First Reading of 400 Role and Guiding Principles for Employees, 401.1 Equal Employment Opportunity, 401.2 Employee Conflict of Interest, 401.3 Nepotism, 401.4 Employee Complaints, 401.5 Employee Records, 401.5R(1) Employee Records Regulation, 401.6 Limitations to Employment References, 401.7 Employee Travel Compensation, 401.8 Recognition for Service of Employees, 401.9 Employee Political Activity of Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Ross Wood to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 5-0. f) Second Reading of 802.7 Energy Conservation, 803.1 Disposition of Obsolete Equipment, 803.2 Lease Sale or Disposal of School District Buildings and Sites, 804.1 Facilities Inspections, 804.2 Warning System and Emergency Plans, 804.4 Asbestos Containing Materials, 804.6 Use of Recording Devices on School Property, 804.6 R1 Use of District Recording Devices on District Property Regulation, 804.7 Radon Mitigation, 804.7 R1 Radon Mitigation Regulation of Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Trevor Nemitz moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 5-0. g) Update on Elementary HVAC Project – Two quotes have been received for asbestos removal. Dr. Buryanek, with guidance from structural engineers, authorized contractors to drill holes through the hallway beams for piping access to the office. h) Open Enrollment – Trevor Nemitz moved, seconded by Ross Wood to deny the open enrollment request. Motion carried 4-0 with Jacobson abstaining. i) Reminder of Regular Board Meeting on July 13, 2026 at 12:00 pm, Construction Meeting on June 16, 2026 at 10:00 am Adjournment – There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 12:42 pm.
