Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District April 13, 2026 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobson, Trevor Nemitz, Ross Wood Absent: Danette Miller Administration: Kim Buryanek, Andrea Gurney, Mallory Meyer Others Present: Correspondence: None Consent Items – Ross Wood moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobson to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 4-0. Public Hearing on the Schleswig CSD FY27 Budget – President Gurney called the Public Hearing to order at 5:31 pm. There being no oral or written comments, the public hearing was closed at 5:32 pm. Personnel Report a) Resignations- None b) Appointments-Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Trevor Nemitz to approve the appointments of McKenzie Weiss, Spring eSports Coach and Amy Schumacher, Math Bee Sponsor. Motion carried 4-0. SEA Report – None Superintendent Report a) Accept the Independent Auditor’s Report from Nolte, Cornman, & Johnson P.C. for FY2025 – Ross Wood moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobson to approve the audit report as presented. Motion carried 4-0. b) Approve Schleswig CSD FY27 Budget – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Trevor Nemitz to approve the budget as presented. Motion carried 4-0. c) Discuss Transportation Agreements – Dr. Buryanek reviewed the transportation agreements with area schools. d) Approve Shared Positions with Denison CSD for FY27 – Trevor Nemitz moved, seconded by Ross Wood to approve sharing the following positions as presented: ESL Teacher, Librarian, Music Teacher, Food Service Director, Operations and Maintenance Director, Transportation Director, Human Resources Manager, Nurse, School Business Official, Superintendent, and Technology Director. Motion carried 4-0. f) First Reading of 800 Objectives of Buildings and Sites, 801.1 Buildings and Sites Long Range Planning, 801.2 Buildings and Sites Surveys, 801.3 Educational Specifications for Buildings and Sites, 801.4 Site Acquisition, 802.1 Maintenance Schedule, 802.2 Requests for Improvements, 802.3 Emergency Repairs, 802.4 Capital Assets, 802.5 Buildings and Sites Adaptation for Persons with Disabilities, 802.6 Vandalism of Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Ross Wood moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobson to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 4-0. g) Update on Elementary HVAC Project – A new fund in the accounting system was established to track revenues and expenses relating to the HVAC project. h) Set the Date for Public Hearing for FY26 Budget Amendment for May 11, 2026 at 5:30 pm – Trevor Nemitz moved, seconded by Ross Wood to approve the date as presented. Motion carried 4-0. i) Administrator Update Mrs. Gurney shared: • ISASP Testing begins this week and will conclude next week. • April 16 is Middle School Solo Contest. • Teacher Inservice on April 20 will focus on math support. • 5th Grade students will participate in Speak Up next week. • Cohen Watts and Logan Stoppel will participate in Heartland Honor Band on April 25. • 5th grade band display night is April 27. • 8th graders will attend a Career Fair in Denison on April 27. • Upcoming May Activities o May 4 - Elementary Spring Concert o May 5 - 7th/8th Grade Golf Outing o May 7 - Middle School Spring Concert o May 12 - 8th Grade Play • Upcoming Scheduled Field Trips o 3rd Grade – Planetarium in Cherokee o 4th Grade – Tour of Western Iowa o 5th Grade – Sioux City o 6th Grade – Rendezvous in Cherokee o 7th Grade – Swan Lake o 8th Grade – Omaha/Fremont j) Reminder of Public Hearing on FY26 Budget Amendment and Regular Board Meeting on May 11, 2026 at 5:30 pm Adjournment – There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 6:12 pm.
