Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District December 8, 2025 Annual Meeting Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobson, Cindy March, Danette Miller, Jason Schneider Absent: None Administration: Kim Buryanek, Andrea Gurney, Mallory Meyer Others Present: Trevor Nemitz, Ross Wood Correspondence: None Consent Items - Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 5-0. Personnel Report Resignations- None Appointments- None Review of Election Results – Trevor Nemitz and Ross Wood were certified as elected Board members by the Crawford County Board of Supervisors. Treasurer’s Report – Mallory Meyer presented the 2024-2025 Treasurer’s report including a sworn statement from each depository. SEA Report – None Recognition of Retiring Board Members – Cindy March and Jason Schneider were presented with plaques for their twelve years of service to the Board. Adjournment – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Cindy March to adjourn the annual meeting at 5:41 pm. Motion carried 5-0. Organizational Meeting Call to Order: Board Secretary, Mallory Meyer called the meeting to order at 5:43 pm. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Rachel Jacobson, Danette Miller, Trevor Nemitz, Ross Wood Absent: None Administration: Kim Buryanek, Andrea Gurney, Mallory Meyer Oath of Office to New Board Members – Secretary Meyer administered the oath of office to Trevor Nemitz and Ross Wood. Election of Board President – Danette Miller nominated Wade Gurney for Board President. Rachel Jacobson seconded. Ayes: Danette Miller, Trevor Nemitz, Wade Gurney, Ross Wood, Rachel Jacobson. Nays: None. Motion carried 5-0. Election of Board Vice-President – Danette Miller nominated Rachel Jacobson for Board Vice President. Trevor Nemitz seconded. Ayes: Danette Miller, Trevor Nemitz, Wade Gurney, Ross Wood, Rachel Jacobson. Nays: None. Motion carried 5-0. Oath of Office for Officers - Secretary Meyer administered the oath of office to Wade Gurney, President and Rachel Jacobson, Vice President. President Gurney ran the remainder of the meeting. Consent Items - Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Danette Miller, to approve the consent item (agenda). Motion carried 5-0. Statutory Appointments a. Appoint District Legal Counsel – Ross Wood moved, seconded by Trevor Nemitz to appoint Ahlers and Cooney, P.C. as the legal counsel. Motion carried 5-0. b. Appoint Board Secretary/Treasurer – Danette Miller moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobson to appoint Mallory Meyer as the Board Secretary/Treasurer. Motion carried 5-0. President Gurney administered the Oath of Office. c. Adopt Resolution Approving Each Depository – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Ross Wood to adopt a Resolution Naming Depositories as Bank Iowa, United Bank of Iowa, and Bankers Trust (UMB) with balance limits of $5,000,000 each, and Iowa Schools Joint Investment Trust with a balance limit of $1,000,000. Motion carried 5-0. Superintendent Report a. Approve Request to School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for Modified Supplemental Amount for Open Enrollment Out of $84,498 – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Danette Miller to authorize the district’s administration to submit a request to the SBRC for MSA of $84,498 for open enrollment out. Motion carried 5-0. b. Approve Request to School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for Modified Supplemental Amount for English Learners Instruction Beyond Five Years of $45,951 – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Ross Wood to authorize the district’s administration to submit a request to the SBRC for MSA of $45,951 for EL instruction beyond five years. Motion Carried 5-0. c. Approve At-Risk Plan and Budget – Danette Miller moved, seconded by Trevor Nemitz to approve the plan and a request to the SBRC for MSA and supplemental aid for $45,951 to fund the at-risk/dropout prevention program. Motion carried 5-0. d. Second Reading of 303 Administrator Qualifications, Recruitment, Appointment, 303.1 Administrator Evaluation, 303.2 Administrator Contract and Contract Renewal, 303.3 Administrator Salary and Other Compensation, 304 Development and Enforcement of Administrative Regulations, 305 Monitoring of Administrative Regulations, 307 Communication Channels 507.1 Student Health and Immunization Certificates of Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Rachel Jacobson moved, seconded by Ross Wood to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 5-0. e. Discussion on Hosting Legislative Regional Meeting – An invitation will be extended to Senator Schultz and Representative Holt to meet with area school district personnel and board members to discuss the upcoming legislative session on January 7, 2026 at 5:30 pm. f. Discussion on Shared Technology Services – Board members discussed the time and costs of Technology Services provided by Denison Community School District. g. Administrator Update Mrs. Gurney shared: - On December 10, Student Council will go to Sioux City to volunteer at the Salvation Army and Food Pantry. - Student Council will deliver gifts to Denison Nursing Homes on December 17. - The Winter Concert will be held on December 18. Students will go to Denison on December 19 for the Christmas movie. - December 23 is the last day of the semester and care package day. - There are two girls out for MS basketball and two boys out for MS wrestling. - Donations are being accepted for clean, gently used clothing for students to use in emergency situations. h.
