Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District November 10, 2025 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobsen, Cindy March, Danette Miller (arrived late), Jason Schneider Absent: None Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: Rianna Furne, Jen Hibma, Sally Sonnichsen-Abbe, Ross Wood Correspondence: None Consent Items – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 4-0. Personnel Report a. Resignations-None b. Appointments-Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the appointment of McKenzie Weiss as the Fall Esports sponsor. Motion carried 4-0. Danette Miller arrived at 5:31 pm. SEA Report – Jen Hibma reported that the Krispy Kreme fundraiser raised $1,200. Staff will celebrate American Education Week next week. The Veterans Day program will be held tomorrow. Superintendent Report a. Open Enrollment Out Request – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the open enrollment out request as presented. Motion carried 4-0, with March abstaining. b. Vote on Director for Board of Northwest Area Education Agency – Danette Miller moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to appoint Henry Jessen to the NWAEA Board. Motion carried 4-1, with Schneider voting nay. c. Approve PowerSchool Litigation Engagement Agreement – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to remove the item from the table. Cindy March then moved, seconded by Danette Miller to not approve the engagement agreement. Motion carried 5-0. d. Motion Carried 4-1, with Schneider voting nay. f. Administrator Update – Mrs. Gurney reported: The Rec is writing a grant to purchase a new popcorn machine for the concession stand. This winter, one student is participating in boys basketball, one in girls wrestling, and fifteen in Esports. Hal Soe, an 8th grade clarinet student, was selected for the SWIBA Honor Band which performs in Denison on November 14. Ty Rosberg will be speaking at the Veterans Day program on Tuesday. Speak Up is working with 5th grade students on speech writing this month. Teacher Inservice on November 17 will focus on math and ELA curriculum work. The Nature Center will visit the district on November 18. Thanksgiving Break is scheduled for November 26-28. g. Reminder of November 25, 2025 HVAC Bids Due, December 1, 2025 at 5:30 pm Public Hearing & Special Board Meeting, December 8, 2025 regular board meeting at 5:30 pm Adjournment-There being no further business to come before theh Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 5:56 pm.
