Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District September 8, 2025 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobsen, Danette Miller (arrived late), Jason Schneider Absent: Cindy March Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: Sally Sonnichsen-Abbe Correspondence: None Consent Items – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 3-0. Personnel Report Resignations-Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the resignations of Tiffany Friedrichsen, Associate and Sarah Fineran, Associate. Motion carried 3-0 Appointments- Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the appointment of Taylor Totten, Associate. Motion carried 3-0. SEA Report – Sally Sonnichsen-Abbe reported a Krispy Kreme fundraiser will be held with proceeds going towards scholarships. Superintendent Report Danette Miller arrived at 5:34 pm. Approve Emergency Operations Plan for 2025-26 – Jason Schneider moved, second by Rachel Jacobsen approve the plan as presented. Motion carried 4-0. Approve Preschool Contract with Immanuel Lutheran for 2025-26 – Rachel Jacobsen moved, second by Danette Miller to approve the contract as presented. Motion carried 4-0. Acknowledge Student Achievement Report – Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) achievement from May 2025 was shared for grades 3-8 for English Language Arts, Math, and Science. Comparison results focused on student growth using EVAAS reports was also shared. Approve Engagement of Nolte, Cornman, & Johnson PC for Fiscal Year 2025 Audit – Jason Schneider moved, second by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the engagement as presented for $14,000. Approve Request to School Budget Review Committee for Allowable Growth and Supplemental State Aid for Negative Special Education Balance – Jason Schneider moved, second by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the request of $234,395.17 as presented. Motion carried 4-0. Administrator Update – Mrs. Gurney reported: This fall, 5 students are participating in volleyball, 8 in football, and 1 in cross country. Early band practice begins this week to prepare for the Calf Show parade on Saturday. 4th grade students will attend Ida Grove Ag Day on September 12. Teacher professional development on September 15 will focus on CPI (de-escalation). Homecoming is scheduled for September 26. School pictures will be taken on September 30. Mrs. Gross is preparing students to participate in the Healthiest State Walk on October 1. Firefighters will visit the kindergarten classroom on October 6. Reminder of October 13, 2025 regular school board meeting at 5:30 pm and November 19-20, 2025 IASB Pre-Conference & Annual Convention Adjournment-There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 6:12 pm.
