Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District June 9, 2025 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobsen, Danette Miller, Jason Schneider Absent: Cindy March Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: Correspondence: None Consent Items - Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 4-0. Personnel Report a. Resignations- None b. Appointments- Danette Miller moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the appointment of Dannielle Book-Lundt as Middle School Drama Director for 2024-25. Motion carried 4-0. Superintendent Report a. Approve Resolution to Participate in the Storm Protection Fund, an Iowa Code Chapter 28E Entity and Chapter 670 Risk Pool – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the resolution as presented. Ayes: Miller, Schneider, Jacobsen, Gurney. Nays: None. Motion carried 4-0. b. Adopt Resolution Approving Revenue Purpose Statement, Ordering an Election on a Revenue Purpose Statement to Authorize Expenditures from Revenue Received from the State Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund, and Ordering Publication of a Notice of Election – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to adopt the resolution as presented. Ayes: Miller, Schneider, Jacobsen, Gurney. Nays: None. Motion carried 4-0. c. Approve School Systems Engineer Agreement between Schleswig CSD & Prairie Lakes AEA – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the agreement in the amount of $1,995 as presented. Motion Carried 4-0. d. Approve Northwest AEA & Schleswig CSD 2025-26 Service Agreement – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the agreement as presented. Motion carried 4-0. e. Approve Contract for the Transfer of State Special Education Funding – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the contract as presented. Motion carried 4-0. f. Second Reading of 503.3 Fines-Fees-Charges, 503.3R1 Student Fee Waiver and Reduction Procedures, 503.3E1 Standard Fee Waiver Application, and 503.6 Use of Personal Electronic Devices by Students of Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 4-0. g. Approve Purchase of K-8 HMH Literacy Materials – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the purchase pending HMH matching the state pricing rates. Motion carried 4-0. h. Approve 2025-2026 TLC Positions – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the TLC positions as presented. Motion carried 4-0. i. Approve 2025-2026 Employee Handbook – Danette Miller moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the handbook as presented. Motion carried 4-0. j. Award Milk Bid to Kemps – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to award the 2025-26 milk bid to Kemps. Motion carried 4-0. k. Discuss Legislative Priorities for 2026 – The Legislative Priorities are available for Board members to review. Action will be taken at an upcoming meeting to set the priorities for 2025-26. j. Administrator Update Mrs. Gurney shared upcoming events: - Summer School is in week 2 and has 35 students participating. Students meet Monday through Thursday and focus on math and reading. - Back-to-School Bash will be held Tuesday, August 19 from 4-7 pm. Move Schleswig CSD Regular Board Meeting in July to July 28, 2025 at Noon – Danette Miller moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the time change. Motion carried 4-0.
