Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District May 12, 2025 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobsen, Cindy March, Jason Schneider Absent: Danette Miller Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: Sally Sonnichsen-Abbe, Cyndi Larson Correspondence: A thank you note from Danae Petersen was shared. Dr. Buryanek recognized the Board members for School Board Appreciation month. Consent Items - Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports) with adjustments of moving Superintendent Item A to be prior to the Personnel Report and tabling Superintendent Items F and G. Motion carried 4-0. Superintendent Report a) Accept the Independent Auditor’s Report from Nolte, Cornman & Johnson P.C. for the 2023-2024 School Year – Paul Beetner, Nolte, Cornman & Johnson presented the FY24 audit. Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the audit report as presented. Motion carried 4-0. Personnel Report a) Resignations- None b) Appointments- Cindy March moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to table the appointment of Sally Sonnichsen-Abbe for further discussion. Motion carried 3-1 with Gurney voting nay. SEA Report – Cyndi Larson reported on the celebrations of Administrative Assistant and Library recognition days. Planning for next year has begun. Superintendent Report b) Approve Scope of Services and Fee Proposal with FEH Design for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System Replacement Project – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the agreement of 10% of the final cost opinion plus contingencies as presented. Motion carried 4-0. c) Approve Contract with Martin Yarborough and Associates LLC for Managed Cybersecurity Services for the 2025-2026 School Year – Cindy March moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the agreement as presented. Motion carried 4-0. d) Approve School Fees for the 2025-2026 School Year – Cindy March moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the increase of the 2nd entrée to $2 and the adult lunch price to $5.00. All other fees remain the same. Motion Carried 4-0. e) First Reading of 503.3 Fines-Fees-Charges, 503.3R1 Student Fee Waiver and Reduction Procedures, 503.3E1 Standard Fee Waiver Application, and 503.6 Use of Personal Electronic Devices by Students of Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 4-0. f) Approve 2025-2026 TLC Positions – This item was tabled. g) Approve Purchase of K-8 HMH Literacy Materials – This item was tabled. h) Administrator Update Mrs. Gurney shared upcoming events: May 14-15 – 8th Grade Field Trip May 15 – 4th Grade Field Trip, Last ESports game May 16 – 8th Grade to Career Day in Denison, 1st & 2nd Grade Mother’s Tea May 20 – 1st, 2nd, and 7th Grade Field Trips, 8th Grade Play May 22 – 5th Grade Field Trip, Elementary Picnic May 23 – MS Awards Day (10 am), Dismissal for Last day at 1:05 pm Summer School will be held Monday through Thursday mornings in June. MS Science teachers will have professional development on the new curriculum in June. i) Move Schleswig CSD Regular Board Meeting in June to June 9, 2025 at Noon – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the time change. Motion carried 4-0. Adjournment-There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 6:05 pm.
