Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District March 10, 2025 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Cindy March, Rachel Jacobsen, Jason Schneider, Danette Miller (arrived late) Absent: None Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: Cindy Stoppel; Matt Basye, FEH Design; Dale Woudstra, EDA Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobsen, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 4-0. Personnel Report Resignations- None Appointments- Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the transfer of Madison Wight from Special Education Teacher to 5th Grade Teacher. Motion carried 4-0. SEA Report – Cindy Stoppel provided an update on behalf of the SEA. The apparel fundraiser concluded last month. Support Staff Appreciation Day was observed last month. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for the end of the month. Additionally, preparations are underway for Kindergarten Round-Up. Public Hearing on 2025-2026 Schleswig Community School District Calendar – President Gurney called the Public Hearing to order at 5:33 pm. Dr. Buryanek presented the proposed calendar for review and discussion. There being no oral or written comments, President Gurney closed the public hearing at 5:35 pm. Superintendent Report Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System Replacement Assessment Results – Danette Miller arrived at 5:44 pm Matt Basye, FEH Design and Dale Woudstra, EDA presented 3 proposals for replacing the boilers serving the elementary classrooms and administration area. The discussion led to the need for revisions to the proposals which will be presented at the April 14 regular board meeting. Approve AEA Purchasing Agreement for the 2025-2026 School Year – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the agreement as presented. Motion carried 5-0. Approve Purchase of Network Equipment from Riverside Technologies, Inc. – Cindy March moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the proposal from Riverside Technologies, Inc. in the amount of $56,703.90. 70% of the cost will be covered through the e-rate program. Motion carried 5-0. Approve Schleswig CSD Calendar for the 2025-2026 School Year – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the calendar as presented. Motion carried 5-0. First Reading of 103 Long Range Needs Assessment of Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Cindy March to approve the policy as presented. Motion carried 5-0. Resolution Amending Resolution No. 482024 Providing for Levying a Tax for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 for the Future Optional Redemption of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2014 and Directing Partial Optional Redemption of Said Bonds – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the resolution as presented. Ayes: Miller, March, Schneider, Jacobsen, Gurney; Nays: None. Discuss Preliminary FY26 Budget – Mallory Meyer presented budget information for discussion. Approve Settlement Agreement for 2025-2026 School Year for Teachers, Administrator, Support Staff, and Transportation – Cindy March moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve a $1,000 salary increase for teachers and administration based on their FTE, $0.60 per hour increase for all hourly support staff, and a 3% salary increase for transportation. Motion carried 4-0 with Gurney abstaining. Approve Schleswig CSD Student Handbook for 2025-2026 School Year – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the handbook as presented. Motion carried 5-0. Approve Agreement Between Schleswig CSD and Northwest AEA for a Social Worker Sharing Agreement for the 2025-2026 School Year – Cindy March moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the agreement as presented. Motion carried 5-0. Discuss School Breakfast and Lunch Program – Discussion was held regarding negative accounts and the balance in the nutrition fund. Danette Miller left the meeting at 7:44 pm. Administrator Update Mrs. Gurney shared: On March 11, the Nature Center will be in the district and 5 students will be participating in the SWICDA Honor Choir. Crawford County Band Night in Charter Oak is on March 18. Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for March 24 and 25. There is no school on March 28. Track practice starts on Thursday with 8 boys signed up. 11 students are signed up for the spring season of ESports. They will be playing Super Smash Brothers and Rocket League. Reminder of March 20, 2025 at 5:30 pm FY26 Budget Public Hearing, April 14, 2025 at 5:30 Regular Board Meeting and Second FY26 Budget Public Hearing.
