Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District February 10, 2025 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Danette Miller, Jason Schneider Absent: Rachel Jacobsen, Cindy March Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: Rianna Furne Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Danette Miller, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 3-0. Personnel Report Resignations- None Appointments- None SEA Report – Rianna Furne shared students and staff are currently enjoying Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as part of the One School – One Book program. She also reported that each week, an 8th grade student will be featured on a spotlight bulletin board in the middle school hallway. Superintendent Report 2025-2026 Budget Adjustment (Guarantee) Resolution – Danette Miller moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to resolve that the Board of Directors of Schleswig Community School District will levy property taxes for fiscal year 2025-2026 for the regular program budget adjustment as allowed under section 257.14, Code of Iowa. Motion carried 3-0. Set Date, Time, and Location for First Public Hearing on the FY26 Budget and Authorize Publication – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Danette Miller to set the first public hearing for March 20, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the District Conference Room. Motion carried 3-0. Set Date, Time, and Location for Second Public Hearing on the FY26 Budget and Authorize Publication – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Danette Miller to set the second public hearing for April 14, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the District Conference Room. Motion carried 3-0. Set Date, Time, and Location for Public Hearing on Schleswig CSD 2025-2026 Calendar – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Danette Miller to set the calendar public hearing for March 10, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the District Conference Room. Motion carried 3-0. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Potential Project Update – Dr. Buryanek and Mallory Meyer met with Travis Squires from Piper Sandler to discuss funding options for the potential project. Matt Basye with FEH Design will attend the Board meeting in March to present four options for the project. Discuss Preliminary FY26 Budget – Mallory Meyer presented budget information for discussion. Fundraising for School Supplies Initiative Update – Wade Gurney shared the recent omelet breakfast raised over $3,000 for school supplies. Administrator Update Mrs. Gurney shared: Students and staff are involved in One School – One Book in February. Denison High School counselors will be working with 8th grade students on transition materials and registration this week. Stacie Escobar and Kira Hagen had artwork selected for the Governor’s Show at the State Capital. Cohen Watts and Noah Westphalen had artwork selected for the Jordan Creek Mall show. Josafath Cruz-Felipe, Kian Volkmann, Cristine Velasquez, Nikki Hernandez, Averi Valentine, and Zabian Moreno had artwork chosen for the Youth Art Month (YAM) traveling show. Izzi Miller, Averi Valentine, Whitney Ernst, June Jurgensen, Logan Stoppel, and Zander Ziegmann were selected for the Southwest Iowa Choral Directors Association (SWICDA) Honor Choir in March. Reminder of March 10, 2025 at 5:30 pm Public Hearing & Board Meeting and March 20, 2025 at 5:30 pm FY26 Budget Public Hearing. Adjournment-There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 6:11 pm.
