Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District October 14, 2024 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobsen, Danette Miller (via phone) Absent: Cindy March, Jason Schneider Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: None Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobsen, second by Danette Miller to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 3-0. Personnel Report Resignations – None Appointments – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the appointments of Dannielle Book-Lundt, Co-Student Council Advisor; Melanie Hargens, Co-MS Boys Basketball Coach; and Tanner Walker, Co-MS Boys Basketball Coach. Motion carried 3-0. SEA Report – None Superintendent Report Discuss IASB Convention and Delegate Assembly – The IASB Delegate Assembly is November 20, 2024 at 9 am. Wade Gurney will serve as the district’s delegate. The IASB Annual Convention is November 21, 2024. Discuss Certified Enrollment – The district certified enrollment numbers today. The actual enrollment (resident students) is down 6.9 students from last year, but due to an increase in open enrolled in students, the total served enrollment is only down 4.3 students from the previous year. Discuss Iowa Schools Joint Investment Trust (ISJIT) – Discussion was held regarding shifting funds to maximize interest earnings which included utilizing ISJIT. The district will pursue a request for proposal for banking services to maintain local banking relationships. Second Reading of 501.9R1 Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy Regulation Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the policy as presented. Motion carried 3-0. First Reading of 104 Anti-Bullying/Anti-Harassment Policy, 104.E1 Complaint Form, 104.E2 Witness Disclosure Form, 104.E3 Disposition of Complaint Form, 605.3 Objection to Instructional and Library Materials Schleswig Board Policies – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Approve Intrado Life and Safety, Inc Invoice for $75,532.50 – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the invoice as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Approve Alternate Bus Routes – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Danette Miller to approve the alternate bus routes as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Administrator Update- Mrs. Gurney shared: The Jensen Family Foundation will be donating Caitlin Clark books to all 2nd graders on November 13. Dollar General donated 100 non-fiction books for various age levels. Boys basketball begins Friday. There are seven 8th graders and six-seven 7th graders participating this year. Esports has 16 participants this year. Mario Cart is the game this fall, and the spring game is Super Smash Brothers. During Calf Show Days, 97 people toured the building.
