MAPLE VALLEY-ANTHON OTO COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD RETREAT AND MEETING Date: Monday, July 14th, 2025 Time: 7:00 PM Place: Library, MVAOCOU High School Present: Wimmer, Streck, Kennedy, Hamann, Schram, and two guests I. Opening of Meeting - President Wimmer called the meeting and hearing to order and declared a quorum at 7:06 PM. The board discussed the possible purchase of land from the Lutheran Church for a new greenhouse site. The board and guests asked several questions and the matter was discussed. We will have a second discussion on this at the August meeting. II. Communications A. Public Forum - One guest mentioned how nice the new paint in the gym looks. B. Correspondence - none III. Consent Agenda - Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve the consent agenda. 5 ayes. Motion carried. General $256,256.29; Management $386,777.73; PPEL $2,655.30; Activity $13,425.03; Hot Lunch $46,995.33; Infrastructure $53,853.49; Extra & Hourly Pay $137,028.66. IV. Approval of Annual Reports - Klingensmith reviewed the annual reports with the board. Kennedy moved and Hamann seconded to approve the annual reports. 5 ayes. Motion carried. V. Opening of New Fiscal Year A. Appointment and Swearing in of School Board Secretary/Treasurer - Shona Klingensmith took the oath of office for the School Board Secretary/Treasurer. B. Designation of School District Depository Banks as per Policy 701.1 - Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve the depository banks as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. C. Designation of Legal Counsel for District as per Policy 207 - Schram moved and Hamann seconded to appoint Ahlers and Cooney as the district legal counsel and also to approve all local papers for the board publications. 5 ayes. Motion carried. D. Authorization to Participate in the Free/Reduced Cost National School Lunch/Breakfast Program - Kennedy moved and Hamann seconded to approve participation in the Free/Reduced Cost National School Lunch/Breakfast Program. The new applications will be available soon. 5 ayes. Motion carried. VI. Action Items A. Employee Resignations/Contract Modifications/Hiring - Hamann moved and Kennedy seconded to approve the hiring of Angie Schrunk (Football Cheer Coach), Sherrie Yockey (MS Asst. Track Coach), Taylor Wright (HS Asst. Volleyball Coach), and Chelsea Schrader (para in Mapleton). 5 ayes. Motion carried. B. Approval of Elementary, Middle School, and High School Handbooks - The handbooks were discussed and changes requested. Hamann moved and Schram seconded to table this item until August after changes are made. 5 ayes. Motion carried. C. Contract for Radon Mitigation Planning in High School - Schram moved and Hamann seconded to approve the bid from National Radon Defense for $23,535 for radon mitigation in the high school. 5 ayes. Motion carried. D. Contract for Professional Development Initiative for 2025-2026 - Hamann moved and Kennedy seconded to approve the PD contract with Todd Strom at Legacy Leadership. The district will use new REAP funding to pay this. 5 ayes. Motion carried. E. Emergency Operation Plan 2025-2026 - Schram moved and Hamann seconded to table this item to August for needed changes. 5 ayes. Motion carried. F. Board Policies 503.9 and 503.10 - Hamann moved and Kennedy seconded to approve these policies. 5 ayes. Motion carried. G. Board Policy Review - Hamann moved and Kennedy seconded to approve the reading of policies 211-411. 5 ayes. Motion carried. Kennedy moved and Schram seconded to approve the reading of policies 503.6-503.6E3. 5 ayes. Motion carried. H. Infrastructure Purchase Technology - Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve the purchase of 45 student devices for a special price of $115 each. 5 ayes. Motion carried. The next regular meeting will be held on August 4, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Anthon. VII. Adjourn Regular Meeting - President Wimmer adjourned the regular meeting at 8:28 PM. VIII. Board Retreat - President Wimmer called the board retreat to order at 8:29 PM. A. Set literacy and math goals for 2025-2026 School Year - the Board welcomed Teresa Murray from the consortium with our neighboring districts. She discussed the goals for literacy and math, and how we will use real data to track and help our students reach their goals. VIII. Adjourn Board Retreat - President Wimmer adjourned the board retreat at 8:50 PM.
