MAPLE VALLEY-ANTHON OTO COMMUNITY SCHOOL 1st Budget Hearing for 2025-2026 School Year Date: Monday, March 24, 2025 Time: 7:00 PM Place: Library, MVAOCOU High School Present: Wimmer, Streck, Hamann, Kennedy, and Schram Others: Approximately 22 guests I. Opening of Meeting – President Wimmer declared a quorum and called the meeting and budget hearing to order at 7:03 PM. Thelander and Klingensmith presented the proposed budget and answered questions from the guests that were present. A lengthy discussion was held. II. Adjourn - Wimmer adjourned the budget hearing at 8:44 pm. The board took a 10 minutes recess. MAPLE VALLEY-ANTHON OTO COMMUNITY SCHOOL March 2025 Regular Board Meeting I. Opening of Meeting – President Wimmer called the regular board meeting and the proposed calendar hearing to order at 8:55 pm. II. Communications - Thelander presented the proposed 25-26 school calendar and discussion was held. Wimmer adjourned the calendar hearing at 9:03 PM. III. Consent Agenda – Streck moved and Schram seconded to approve the consent agenda. 5 ayes. Motion carried. General $238,322.93; Management $1,164.68; PPEL $1,434; Activity $35,473.59; Hot Lunch $23,570.14; Infrastructure $118,943.26; Extra & Hourly Pay $148,175.31 IV. Action Items A. Employee Resignations/Contract Modifications/Hirings – Hamann moved and Kennedy seconded to approve the contracts for Makenzie Smith (HS Head Volleyball Coach) and Ryan Gotto (MS Head Football coach); the resignations of David Kovarna (Band Teacher) and Amos Parr (HS Asst. Boys’ Golf Coach); and the leave of absence request of Vickie Mente. 5 ayes. Motion carried. B. Budget Guarantee for FY 2026 - SCHOOL BUDGET GUARANTEE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Code of Iowa Section 257.14 allows financial support to schools with declining enrollment so that the decline does not adversely affect a school’s educational programs; and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Maple Valley- Anthon Oto Community School District chooses to support its educational programs to the best of their ability. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of the Maple Valley – Anthon Oto Community School District will levy property tax for fiscal year 2025-2026 for the regular program budget adjustment as allowed under section 257.14, Code of Iowa. Board Member Streck introduced the resolution above and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Board Member Schram and the roll being called, the following voted in favor thereof: Wimmer, Streck, Hamann, Kennedy, and Schram;, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 24th day of March 2025. C. 2025-2026 School Calendar – Hamann moved and Kennedy seconded to table the approval of the calendar until next month. 5 ayes. Motion carried. D. Board Policy Review – Schram moved and Hamann seconded to approve the review of board policies 200.1-201 with no changes. 5 ayes. Motion carried. V. Reports A. Principal Reports B. Superintendent’s Report - snow make up days will be as follows: No early out on 4/16; school will now be held on 4/17, 5/27, 5/28, and 5/29(with possible early out). VI.
