City of Mapleton Minutes – Regular Council Meeting May 13, 2026 The regular meeting of the city council was held Wednesday, May 13th, 2026 at 5:30 pm. Roll call was taken with the following members present, Mayor Brent Streck, Abby Koenigs, Alan Nielsen, Travis Kaufman, Jacob Zawodny, and Joe Hogan. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Attorney Mike Schmiedt from Crary Huff was present. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Travis Kaufman, second by Joe Hogan to approve the agenda adding reports from Marshall Goslar, Chief Alex Ehlers, and Brent Streck. Ayes: All. Motion carried.Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Jacob Zawodny to approve daily passes for the library reading program. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Joe Hogan to approve Resolution 2026-8, The 2026 Reginal Hazard Mitigation Plan. Ayes: Alan Nielsen, Abby Koenigs, Jacob Zawodny, Joe Hogan, and Travis Kaufman. Nays: none. Motion Carried. Motion by Joe Hogan, second by Jacob Zawodny to approve giving the gray Tahoe police lights to the Castana Fire Department. The lights don’t fit anything that Mapleton Fire Department has. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Joe Hogan to approve accepting the lower trade-in price for the gray Tahoe of $7000.00. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Hogan, second by Jacob Zawodny to approve the agreement with Connections upon Karen visiting with Vicky. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Hogan, second by Abby Koenigs to approve the DNR coming and doing a tree inventory this summer. Ayes: All Motion carried. Motion by Joe Hogan, second by Alan Nielsen to approve ordering 2 each current 5’ zoning maps and 2 each current legal size maps. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Joe Hogan to approve the bid from Monona County Iron, but to wait to order until our meeting with Mike Carr next Tuesday to see if this can be included in our upgrade planning. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Travis Kaufman to get bids to replace the sidewalk in front of the community center. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Travis Kaufman to approve Cody Krusen getting rid of the moles for $300. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Hogan, second by Jacoby Zawodny to approve the IDOT agreement for maintenance and repair of primary roads in municipalities. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Joe Hogan to allow the city office to adjust their hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day to 7:30 am – 4:00pm. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Alan Nielsen to renew Mapleton Food Land liquor license renewal. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Joe Hogan to approve using 317 Main Street for pop can storage for “cans for the community”. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Alan Nielsen to approve the listing agreement for 201 N 6th Street from Midwest Land and Auction. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Joe Hogan to set the public hearing for 201 N 6th Street for June 10th at 5:15 pm. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to set the public hearing for the Water Tower Street lots June 10th at 5:15 pm. Ayes: All. Motion carried.
