City of Mapleton Minutes – Regular Council Meeting January 14, 2026 The regular meeting of the city council was held January 14th, 2026 at 5:30 pm. Roll call was taken with the following members present, Mayor Brent Streck, Travis Kaufman, Abby Koenigs, Jacob Zawodny, Alan Nielsen. Joe Hogan was absent. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Attorney Mike Schmiedt from Crary Huff was also present. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to approve the agenda. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Travis Kaufman to approve Resolution 2026-1 - Appoint the City Clerk and City Attorney. Ayes: Travis Kaufman, Abby Koenigs, Jacob Zawodny. Abstain: Alan Nielsen. Absent: Joe Hogan. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Alan Nielsen to approve Resolution 2026-2 – Regarding Fiscal Policies. Ayes: Travis Kaufman, Abby Koenigs, Jacob Zawodny, and Alan Nielsen. Absent: Joe Hogan. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to approve Resolution 2026-3 – Records Custodian Resolution. Ayes: Travis Kaufman, Abby Koenigs, Jacob Zawodny, and Alan Nielsen. Absent: Joe Hogan. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Alan Nielsen to approve Resolution 2026-4 - Designation Depositories for Public Funds. Ayes: Travis Kaufman, Abby Koenigs, Jacob Zawodny, and Alan Nielsen. Absent: Joe Hogan. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Jacob Zawodny to approve Resolution 2026-5 – Setting City Attorney Rate. Ayes: Travis Kaufman, Abby Koenigs, Jacob Zawodny, and Alan Nielsen. Absent: Joe Hogan. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to adopt the new Gas Operator Qualification Plan Revision 1.1 and 1.2. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Jacob Zawodny to remove Karla Uhl and Dian Bleil from the City of Mapleton Checking accounts, to leave Karen Koenigs and Teresa Steinhoff on, and to add Ashley Mohr. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Alan Nielsen to give Marshall the authority to sell the airport fuel tanks and pump with the buyer removing for the best price possible. It was estimated that the tanks are worth 50 cents a gallon. The council wants to start at $1500. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Jacob Zawodny to raise the employee contribution for health insurance. Family contribution will be $375 per month, employee/spouse will be $275 per month, and single will remain at $150 per month. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to purchase 317 Main Street for $5000. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Travis Kaufman to hire Elizabeth Stapleton at $12 per hour as custodian. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Jacob Zawodny, second by Alan Nielsen to hire Teresa Steinhoff as the Deputy Clerk at her current wage. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Jacob Zawodny to make the fine for parking on non-hard surfaces $50. Tickets will be given at the officer’s discretion, but no more frequent than 30 days apart per household. The fine will need to be paid at the City Clerk’s office. Warnings will be given until May 1st. Ayes: All. Motion carried Motion by Jacoby Zawodny, second by Abby Koenigs to set the public hearing for the budget February 25th at 5:30 pm.
