Marshall’s report consisted of the removal of 14 trees, with Wolf Tree Service quoting $1200 each for topping 2 big maple trees on 8th Street. The city crew hauled them away. One of the property owners paid the $1200 for the tree in his parking. The stumps have been grubbed as they go and dirt brought in to fill holes. City Hall had a water leak that was fixed on Wednesday. Feld Fire had not inspected the fire extinguishers in the city buildings or vehicles for 3-4 years. They had lost the records for Mapleton due to employee turnover. Feld Fire was asked to return to yearly inspections. The city has 30-40 extinguishers in total. Alex Ehlers gave the police report from January 14th to February 10th. Kalvin started giving warnings for parking on non-hard surfaces, handing out 27 notices. Brent Streck had a meeting on Monday evening with Mr. Thelander, Alex Ehlers, and Alex Boyle. Parking and traffic control around the school was discussed. Ideas that were brought back to the council were to repaint the cross walks across the north end of 6th Street and the north end of 7th Street. The stop signs and children crossing signs on those corners will be moved to be more visible, however this will take 2 parking spots on each side of the school. No parking will continue on Monona Street between 6th and 7th Streets with some curbs being painted red and the spaces on the north east side of Monona Street will be bus drop off parking only. White lines will be repainted on the west side of 6th Street. On 7th Street 10-15 spots along the north end will be marked as children pick up/drop off only. White lines will also be painted across the bus loading area linking the sidewalks and should be the only place that children cross in the bus area. Brent will report back to the school.
