NOTICE OF INTENTION TO FILL COUNCIL MEMBER VACANCY BY APPOINTMENT The City of Charter Oak, Crawford County, Iowa, has a vacancy on the city council as of January 23, 2025, due to the resignation of Benjamin Heyne. Pursuant to Section 372.13, (2) of the Code of Iowa, notice is hereby given that the City Council of Charter Oak, Crawford County, Iowa, intends to fill this vacancy by appointment within the next 60 days. A Resolution Proposing to Fill the Council Member Vacancy by Appointment and Authorizing Publication of Notice will be held at the next scheduled council meeting at the Library in Charter Oak, Iowa, on the 3rd day of February, 2025 at 7:00 o’clock p.m. The electors have the right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by special election. The petition must be signed by eligible electors who are or would be entitled to vote to fill the office in question equal in number to fifteen percent (15%) of those who voted at the last proceeding regular election at which the office was on the ballot, or two hundred (200) persons, whichever number is fewer. The petition must be filed with the City Clerk within fourteen (14) days after the appointment is made, or the vacancy occurs, whichever date is later. If no such petition is filed, the appointment shall be for the period until the next pending election as defined in Section 69.12 of the Code of Iowa. Eligible electors of the City of Charter Oak, Crawford County, Iowa, wanting to be considered for appointment should submit a request in writing to the city clerk’s office by February 24, 2025.
