Monona County Public Notice Notice of Intent to Fill the Vacancy in the Office of the Monona County Sheriff by Appointment Pursuant to Iowa Code § 69.14A (2)(a)(1), you are hereby notified of the Monona County Board of Supervisors intent to make an appointment to fill the Monona County Sheriff vacancy created by the retirement of Jeffrey Pratt. The appointment will be made on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Room in the Monona County Courthouse at 610 Iowa Avenue, Onawa, Iowa. The person appointed shall conduct the duties of this position starting March 31, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. until the seat appears on the November 5, 2024 General Election ballot or earlier if a Special Election is ordered. Notice is further given that eligible electors of Monona County have the right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by special election per Iowa Code § 69.14A (2)(a)(2). This action renders the appointment temporary, and a special election will be called for. Said petition shall be filed with the County Auditor within 14 days of the appointment. The petition shall meet the requirements of Code of Iowa 331.306, which, in part, states the petition must be signed by a number equal or greater than at least 10 percent of the votes cast in the County for the office of Governor at the proceeding General Election which equals 326 signatures.
