Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District January 8, 2024 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Danette Miller, Rachel Jacobson (via phone), Jason Schneider Absent: Cindy March Administration: Mike Pardun, Superintendent, Scott Larson, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Andrea Gurney, Principal Others Present: Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Jason Schneider, second by Rachel Jacobson, to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Unanimous approval. Personnel Report a) Resignations- None b) Appointments- None SEA Report – None Superintendent Report a) Approve the Second Reading of Board Policies 401.1 Equal Employment Opportunity, 503.1 Student Conduct, 503.1R1 Student Suspension, 503.2 Expulsion, and 605.3R1 Reconsideration of Instructional and Library Materials Regulation – Rachel Jacobson moved to approve the second reading of the aforementioned policies. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Jacobson, Miller, and W. Gurney. Nays: Jason Schneider. Motion Carried. b) Approve the First Reading of Board Policies 713 Responsible Technology Use and Social Networking, 713R1 Responsible Technology Use and Social Networking Regulation, 502.7 Student Substance Abuse, 605.6 Internet Appropriate Use, 605.8 Artificial Intelligence in the Education Environment, 605.8R1 Artificial Intelligence in the Education Environment Regulation, 701.1 Depository Funds, 701.2 Transfer of Funds, 701.3 Financial Records, 701.4 Governmental Accounting Practices and Regulations and 703.1 Budget Planning – Jason Schneider moved to approve the first reading of the aforementioned policies. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Schneider, Jacobson, Miller, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. c) Staffing Discussions – Mr. Pardun gave an update on the Director of Maintenance position. d) Legislative Regional Meeting Update – Mr. Pardun and President Gurney shared that the evening went well with good discussion with Senator Schultz and Representative Holt. Representatives from Boyer Valley, Galva-Holstein, IKM-Manning, and Denison also attended. e) Presentation on Preliminary Budget and District Financial Health Information – Scott Larson shared information on the district’s current financial health which included enrollment data, revenue and expenditure history, financial solvency, unspent budget authority, and tax rates. f) Administrator Update- Mrs. Gurney shared: -Plans are underway for American Heart Association Week—focus on health education & CPR -Plans are underway for Read Across America-activities to take place in late Feb and early March President Gurney shared: -Omelet breakfast will take place on Sunday, February 11—proceeds help with the school supply program g) Next Regular Meeting-The next regular board meeting will be held on February 12, 2024 at 5:30 pm.
