Minutes Of the Regular Meeting & Public Hearing of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District June 13, 2022 Agenda Regular Meeting Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Rachel Jacobson, Jason Schneider, and Danette Miller (electronically) Absent: Cindy March Administration: Mike Pardun, Superintendent and Scott Larson, Business Manager Board Secretary: Julia Mogensen Others Present: Representatives from Under the Son Daycare Guests & Correspondence: Ava Jacobson Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobson, Second by Jason Schneider, to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Unanimous approval. Personnel Report a) Resignations-Jason Schneider moved to approve the resignations of Madison Allen and Stacy Pritchard, teachers, and Brian Sieren, basketball coach. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Gurney, Jacobson, Schneider. Nays: Miller. Motion Carried. b) Appointments- None SEA Report- No report Under the Son Daycare Update-Representatives from Under the Son Daycare reported to the board on the progress of the daycare, including building progress, hiring updates, and information about certifications and permits. Under the Son Daycare plans to be open by August 22, 2022. The board agreed to add a bus pick-up and drop-off at the daycare and will consider assisting with meals if needed. Superintendent Report a) Update on Staffing for 2022-2023-Mr. Pardun reported that the search to fill open teaching positions continues. Two associate positions have been filled. b) Approval of Legislative Priorities for 2023-Jason Schneider moved to approve the legislative priorities as School Vouchers, Mental Health, School Safety, and Open Enrollment. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Jacobson, Miller, Gurney, and Schneider. Nays: None. Motion Carried. c) Approval of Milk Bid – Rachel Jacobson moved to approve the milk bid submitted by Kemps, to provide milk for the 2022-23 school year. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Jacobson, Miller, Gurney, and Schneider. Nays: None. Motion Carried. d) Update Back to School Bash Update-Wade Gurney reported on successful fundraising efforts on behalf of the Schleswig Education Foundation to help fund the Back to School Bash and to cover the cost of school supplies. e) First Reading of Board Policies: 200.3 Responsibilities of the Board of Directors, 710.1E1 School Nutrition Program Notices of Nondiscrimination, 710.1E2 Child Nutrition Program Civil Rights Complaint Form, 710.1R1 School Nutrition Program Civil Rights Complaints Procedure, and 802.4 Capital Assets-Rachel Jacobson moved to approve the first reading of the aforementioned policies. Second by Jason Schneider. Ayes: Gurney, Miller, Jacobson, Schneider. Nays: None. Motion Carried. f) Discussion on Cell Phone Use and Policies-The board discussed district policies regarding the use of cell phones at school. Mr. Pardun shared that Technology Director Greg Gunderson had several safety protocols in place and that staff and students will review cell phone use policies at the beginning of the year. g) Discussion on Building Accessibility-Mr. Pardun asked the board to consider various ways to make the Gym-Fitness Center available to groups requesting access including programming door locks and manually unlocking and relocking doors. The board will continue discussion on building accessibility. h) Appointment of Board Secretary/Treasurer-Jason Schneider moved to approve Scott Larson as Schleswig Community School District Board Secretary/Treasurer. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Jacobson, Miller, Schneider, and Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. President Gurney issued the Oath of Office to Secretary Larson. i) Next Regular Meeting-The next regular board meeting will be held on July 11, 2022, at noon.
