Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District March 13, 2023 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Rachel Jacobson, Cindy March, and Danette Miller Absent: Jason Schneider Administration: Mike Pardun, Superintendent, Scott Larson, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Andrea Gurney, Principal Others Present: Carl Benge Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobson, second by Danette Miller, to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Unanimous approval. Personnel Report Resignations- None b) Appointments- None Public Hearing on Schleswig Community School District Calendar 2023-2024-President Gurney called the Public Hearing to order at 5:30 p.m. The board presented the proposed Schleswig Community School District Calendar for 2023-2024 for public review and discussion. There being no oral or written comments or objections, President Gurney closed the public hearing at 5:31 p.m. SEA Report- Carl Benge reported that the SEA held their Friendship Fiesta in February, they had a DQ potluck, and they provided Valentine’s to the support staff. Superintendent Report Approval of Schleswig CSD School Calendar for the 2023-2024 School Year – Rachel Jacobson moved to approve the Schleswig CSD School Calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. Second by Cindy March. Ayes: Jacobson, March, Miller, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. b) Adopt Budget Guarantee Resolution fy24 – President Gurney presented the Budget Guarantee Resolution for fy24: Resolved, that the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District, will levy property tax for fiscal year 2023-2024 for the regular program budget adjustment as allowed under section 257.14, Code of Iowa. Cindy March moved to adopt the Budget Guarantee Resolution fy24. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: March, Jacobson, Miller, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. c) Discussion on Preliminary Budget for fy24 – Mr. Larson presented budget information for discussion. d) Set Date, Time, and Location for a Public Hearing on the fy24 Budget and Authorize Publication (April 10, 2023 at 5:30 pm at Schleswig CSD, 714 Date Street, Schleswig, IA 51461 in the District Conference Room) – Danette Miller moved to set the date, time, and location for a Public Hearing on the fy24 Budget and Authorize Publication for 5:30 pm on April 10, 2023, at the Schleswig CSD District Conference Room, 714 Date Street, Schleswig, IA 51461. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Miller, Jacobson, March, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. e) Approval of Sharing Positions with Denison CSD and NWAEA for fy24 – Cindy March moved to approve the sharing positions with the Denison CSD and with the NWAEA for fy24. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: March, Jacobson, Miller, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. f) IASB Student Success Summit Discussion – President Gurney shared information on the IASB Student Success Summit that is taking place in April and asked members to consider attending. g) Administrator Update – Mrs. Gurney reported that the 6th, 7th , and 8th grade band members would be attending the Crawford County Band Festival at Charter Oak on Tuesday. The 4th grade is taking a field trip to WIPCO on Wednesday. The end of the third quarter is this Friday. The 7th and 8th grade Math Bee teams will be competing in the near future. The Middle School Dance will take place on March 31. There are 5-7th grade students and 3-8th grade students out for track and the first meet will be April 4. Fifteen students are out for the spring Esports season. A McTeacher night may take place at McDonalds in Denison as school supply fundraiser. The 8th grade field trip plans are in its initial stages. President Gurney thanked the board for their efforts with the breakfast fundraiser and shared the final financials of the breakfast. h) Next Regular Meeting-The next regular board meeting will be held on April 10, 2023, at 5:30 pm. Adjournment-There being no further business to come before the Board for consideration at this time, the meeting was adjourned at 5:55 pm.
