City of Mapleton Minutes - Regular Council Meeting June 14, 2023 The regular meeting of the city council was held on June 14, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. Roll call was taken with the following members present, Mayor Brent Streck, Joe Hogan, Dian Bleil, Angie Sass, Benita Uhl and Abby Koenigs. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Motion by Angie Sass, second by Dian Bleil to approve minutes from the previous meetings. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Benita Uhl, second by Angie Sass to approve the order of the agenda. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Benita Uhl to open the public hearing regarding 2023 Street Projects. Ayes: All. Motion carried and public hearing was opened. No comments were received. Motion by Benita Uhl, second by Joe Hogan to close the public hearing. Ayes: All. Motion carried and public hearing was closed. Bryan Wells from DGR was present regarding the 2023 Street Projects. No bids were received for the project. Bryan suggested revisiting the projects in the fall and rebid the projects. Motion by Angie Sass, second by Dian Bleil to open the public hearing regarding the budget amendment. Ayes: All. Motion carried and public hearing was opened. There were no comments received. Motion by Dian Bleil, second by Benita Uhl to close the public hearing. Ayes: All. Motion carried and public hearing was closed. Motion by Dian Bleil, second by Angie Sass to approve paying for yard repairs for Lee Petersen that was damaged during the expansion of Tower Street. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Angie Sass, second by Joe Hogan to accept the resignation of police officer Andrew Miller effective June 25, 2023. He has taken a position with Ida County Sheriff’s Department. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Dian Bleil, second by Joe Hogan to approve $3.00 per hour for one call officers and 2 hours straight time for any call out situation. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Hogan, second by Benita Uhl to approve an annual airport use fee of $3,000.00 for spray planes and also proof of insurances. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Benita Uhl to approve cigarette license renewals for Cenex, Casey’s, Main Street Spirits and Dollar General. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Benita Uhl, second by Joe Hogan to approve first reading of Ordinance 478 regarding adjusting water rates. Ayes: Benita Uhl, Abby Koenigs, Angie Sass, Joe Hogan and Dian Bleil. Motion carried. Motion by Benita Uhl, second by Abby Koenigs to pass the first reading of Ordinance 479 regarding adjusting sewer rates. Ayes: Benita Uhl, Dian Bleil, Abby Koenigs, Angie Sass and Joe Hogan. Motion carried. Motion by Dian Bleil, second by Joe Hogan to approve passage of Resolution 2023-12 Approving Budget Amendment. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Benita Uhl to approve liquor license renewal for Dollar General. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Angie Sass, second by Benita Uhl to approve new liquor license for Mapleton Food Land Incorporated. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Hogan, second by Benita Uhl to approve the July 4th scheduled events. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Angie Sass, second by Abby Koenigs to approve accept bid from Daniel Pickard for new gutters on the community center at a cost of $2,950.00. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Abby Koenigs, second by Angie Sass to approve support of Iowa Thriving Communities application with MCDC. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Benita Uhl, second by Abby Koenigs to approve $900.00 for a barrier on the wall between the baby pool and the large pool as required by the pool inspector. Ayes: All. Motion carried.
