Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District January 13, 2025 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Rachel Jacobsen, Danette Miller, Jason Schneider Absent: Cindy March Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager Board Secretary Others Present: Jen Hibma , Sally Sonnichsen-Abbe Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobsen, second by Danette Miller to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 4-0. Personnel Report Resignations- Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the resignation of Sally Sonnichsen-Abbe. Motion carried 4-0. Appointments- Danette Miller moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the appointments of Andrea Gurney, ESports Coach; McKenzie Weiss, ESports Coach; and the transfer of Shelly Aldag to Transportation. Motion carried 3-0 with Gurney abstaining. SEA Report – Jen Hibma spoke about an upcoming apparel fundraiser for the staff scholarship and plans are being made for “Jason and Darla Day” (Custodian Appreciation). Superintendent Report Appoint Representative to Crawford County Assessor’s Conference Board – Danette Miller moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to nominate Cindy March for the Crawford County Assessor’s Conference Board. Motion carried 4-0. Presentation on Preliminary Budget and District Financial Health Information – Mallory Meyer provided information on the district’s current financial health which include enrollment data, revenue and expenditure history, financial solvency, unspent budget authority, and tax rates. Discuss Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Potential Project – Discussion was had about replacing the heating and air units in the north wing classrooms. Approximately twelve classrooms would be impacted. The Board would like to explore all options from heat pumps to replacing the existing boiler. Update on Regional Legislative Meeting – Dr. Buryanek updated the Board regarding the Regional Legislative Meeting held on January 8. Representative Steven Holt attended the meeting and engaged in conversations relating to preschool expansion, property tax reform, AEA reform, attendance legislation, operational sharing, dropout prevention funding, school funding, and cell phones in schools. Administrator Update Mrs. Gurney shared: Three boys are participating in boy’s wresting and two girls participated during their season. Third and Fourth Grade students will host Dad’s Night on January 23. Fourth Graders are going to WIPCO on January 30. ISASP testing is scheduled for April 8-16. Reminder of January 28, 2025 AEA/IASB/SAI Day on the Hill and February 10, 2025 at 5:30 pm Board Meeting.
