Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District February 13, 2023 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Rachel Jacobson, Cindy March, and Jason Schneider Absent: Danette Miller Administration: Mike Pardun, Superintendent, Scott Larson, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Andrea Gurney, Principal Others Present: Abigail Riley Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobson, second by Jason Schneider, to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Unanimous approval. Personnel Report a) Resignations- Jason Schneider moved to approve the resignation of Tiffany Moeller, teacher. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Schneider, Jacobson, March, and A. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. b) Appointments- None SEA Report- Abigail Riley reported that the SEA celebrated Dave Drees and the support staff this month. Superintendent Report a) School Supply Fundraising Update – President Gurney gave a report on the omelet breakfast fundraiser. Many donations of product were made along with $2900 raised for this event with over 180 meals being served. There was a great group of volunteers, and all went well. b) School Security Update – Mr. Pardun reported that the necessary steps are being followed to apply for the $100,000 (Governor’s School Safety Initiative) grant. Security items were discussed. c) Discussion on Preliminary Budget for fy24 – Mr. Larson presented preliminary budget information for discussion. d) Set Public Hearing on Schleswig CSD Calendar 2023-2024 (March 13, 2023 at 5:30 pm at Schleswig CSD, 714 Date Street, Schleswig, IA 51461 in the District Conference Room) – Jason Schneider moved to set the Public Hearing on Schleswig CSD Calendar 2023-2024 for March 13, 2023 at 5:30 pm at Schleswig CSD, 714 Date Street, Schleswig, IA 51461 in the District Conference Room. Second by Rachel Jacobson. Ayes: Schneider, Jacobson, March, and W. Gurney. Nays: None. Motion Carried. Back to School Bash was discussed, tentatively set for Monday, August 21, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 pm. e) Negotiations for 2023-2024 School Year – Mr. Pardun shared that the district’s health insurance plans’ cost will increase 6.45% for the upcoming year. Teacher contracts for next year will be issued on or near March 15, 2023. f) Administrator Update – Mrs. Gurney reported that Esports had a tournament at OABCIG this past weekend. Middle school students will go bowling on February 22. American Heart Association Day will be Thursday, February 16, with a variety of activities planned. One School-One Book event has started. The 6th grade Math Bee will be held on March 7. The vocal solo contest will be held on March 10. Art program highlights were also shared. g) Next Regular Meeting-The next regular board meeting will be held on March 13, 2023, at 5:30 pm.
