Melvin Lee Goslar, 73, of Ute passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at Maple Heights Nursing Home, Mapleton.

Melvin Lee was born November 2, 1949 in Ute, the son of William Earl Otto and Rosie Bertha Christina (Kroll) Goslar. Melvin grew up in Ute on the farm. He graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School with the class of 1968.

Melvin served in the United States Army from December 29, 1969 to December 17, 1973. He was an active member of the Homer Hall American Legion Post #66 of Charter Oak. Melvin attended an honor flight on May 11, 2019 with his brother Les Goslar. Melvin held offices with the 8th District American Legion including Commander, Vice Commander, and Finance Officer. He also served on the American Legion National Security Committee and Iowa American Legion Foundation Board of Directions.

Melvin was a farmer for many years. He enjoyed working with animals, working with the land, and gardening, spending time with nieces and nephews. Melvin enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially euchre. He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his two siblings, Karen (Ray) Bathke of Dakota City, NE, and Lester (Donna) Goslar of Mapleton; nieces and nephews, Dave (Lisa) Bathke, Randy (Cora) Bathke, Lori (Danny) Jackson, Kevin (Jennifer) Goslar, Marshall Goslar, Lenora (Mike Thurby) Goslar, Brock (Jamee) Goslar, Darren (Sarah) Goslar, James (Kim) Johnson, Brenda (Paul) Maibaum, and Marcy Johnson; many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Rosie Goslar; and sister, Bonnie (Earl) Johnson.

A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, with Reverend Richard Merrill, officiating. A live stream of the service was posted on the Goslar Funeral Home Website with Melvins obituary. Music selections were For all The Saints, How Great Thou Art,” “The Old Rugged Cross, Precious Lord, Take My Hand,and I Know My Redeemer Liveswith Darren C.E. Goslar as the soloist and Brenda Christiansen as the organist. Military Honors were provided by the Homer Hall American Legion Post #66, Charter Oak, and 8th District American Legion Officers. Burial followed at St. John Cemetery, Charter Oak. A visitation was on Friday, Nov. 18, at the church and a prayer service followed.

Arrangements were under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa.

Casket bearers were Dave Bathke, Randy Bathke, Kevin Goslar, Marshall Goslar, James Johnson, and Gerald Jors.

Honorary bearers were Homer Hall American Legion Post #66 Members and 8th District American Legion Officers.
