MAPLE VALLEY-ANTHON OTO COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Date: Thursday, February 13th, 2025 Time: 7:00 PM Place: Middle School Library, Anthon, IA Present: Wimmer, Kennedy, Streck, Hamann, and Schram Absent: None Others: 2 guests I. Opening of Meeting – President Wimmer called the meeting to order and declared a quorum at 7:00. II. Communications A. Public Forum and Correspondence - none B. Presentation of Proposed School Calendar for 2025-2026 School Year C. Presentation from Jon Wimmer about the possibility of a new FFA greenhouse. III. Consent Agenda – Hamann moved and Schram seconded to approve the consent agenda. 5 ayes. Motion carried. General $254,823.22; Management $1,164.68; Activity $33,884.30; Hot Lunch $162,484.01; Infrastructure $46,114.55; Extra & Hourly $110,472.39. IV. Action Items A. Employee Resignations/Hiring/Contract Modifications – Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to approve the resignation of Doug Ward, MS Teacher, effective at the end of the school year, and to approve the contracts of Brady Seuntjens (Head Baseball coach), Paige Landwehr (MS Head Track), Corey Dose (MS Asst. Track coach), Rachel Kenney (HS Asst Track Coach), Kolby Nutt (HS Asst. Track coach), Lee Petersen (E-sports coach), Kelsey Burger (Social Media), Amos Par (HS Asst Golf coach), and Kolby Nutt (% of Asst. Boys’ Basketball coach). 5 ayes. Motion carried. B. Approval of Spring/Summer 2025 Coaches – Kennedy moved and Streck seconded to approve the spring/summer 2025 coaches as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. C. Athletic Complex Upgrade – Streck moved and Hamann seconded to purchase two softball batting cages. 5 ayes. Motion carried. Baseball cages will be on the March board agenda for approval. D. Drivers’ Education 2025 – Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to keep the driver’s ed fees the same as last year. 5 ayes. Motion carried. E. FY 2024 Audit Review – Streck moved and Hamann seconded to approve the 2024 audit as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. F. Infrastructure Purchase: Floor Scrubber – Schram moved and Streck seconded to purchase a floor scrubber from HD Supply for $15,700. 5 ayes. Motion carried. G. Infrastructure Purchase: School Vehicle – Schram moved and Kennedy seconded to earmark up to $55,000 for a 12-passenger van. 5 ayes. Motion carried. H. Board Policy Review – Hamann moved and Streck seconded to approve a portion of the 200 series policies as presented. 5 ayes. Motion carried. V. Future Agenda Item Requests and Announcements A. Budget Hearings on March 24th and April 14,2025 B. Budget Guarantee Resolution for FY 2026 C. Faculty Handbook, Support Staff, Bus Driver handbook, Student Handbook Changes D. Next Regular School Board Meeting March 24, 2025 – negotiations will begin this month. VIII. Closed Session under Iowa code 21.5(e1): To discuss whether to conduct a hearing or to conduct hearings to suspend or expel a student, unless an open session is requested by the student or a parent or guardian of the student if the student is a minor. Hamann moved and Schram seconded to go into closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(e1). Roll Call Vote; Ayes: Wimmer, Kennedy, Streck, Hamann, and Schram. Nays: none. Motion carried. The board entered closed session at 8:51PM. Kennedy moved and Hamann seconded to come out of closed session. Roll Call Vote; Ayes: Wimmer, Kennedy, Streck, Hamann, and Schram. Nays: none. Motion carried. The board came out of closed session at 9;17PM. Schram moved and Hamann seconded to expel Student A for the rest of the 24-25 school year and the 1st semester of the 25-26 school year, for repeated vandalism, theft, and possession of a dangerous object. IX. Adjourn – Wimmer adjourned the meeting at 9:30 PM.
