City of Ute SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING Monday, August 5, 2024 – City Hall 6:15pm The Ute City Council met with Mayor Henschen in special, open session on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 6:15pm in the Council Chambers, City Hall with the following council members present: Jimmy Carlson, Josh Gotto, Matt Leitz, Sue Kelm. Also Present: City Clerk Megan Peitsch and two candidates for the deputy clerk position for their interviews. The meeting was called to order at 6:15pm by Mayor Henschen. Motion by JCarlson/Kelm to approve the agenda. All Ayes. MC Motion by Gotto/Leitz to move to closed session for one deputy clerk applicant interview – The applicant has requested closed session. Closed Session Under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session. All ayes. MC City Council entered into closed session at 6:16pm. The detailed minutes and recording have been sealed in accordance with Iowa Code 25.1(5). City Council returned to open session at 6:29pm. The first applicant left and the next applicant arrived. Motion by Leitz/Gotto to move to closed session for one deputy clerk applicant interview – The applicant has requested closed session. City Council returned to open session at 6:44pm. An interview with another candidate had taken place previously with the Mayor, Kelm, JCarlson, and City Clerk Peitsch present. A quorum was not met for the planned interview on 8/5/24 at 3:45 and only the interview occurred. Motion by Gotto/Leitz to hire Denise White-Dunahoo for the position of Deputy City Clerk at a rate of $13.50/hour with a scheduled 3 month follow-up review. All Ayes.
