City of Mapleton Minutes - Special Council Meeting April 9, 2025 The special meeting of the city council was held April 9, 2025 at 5:15 p.m. Roll call was taken with the following members present, Mayor Streck, Benita Uhl, Joe Hogan, Abby Koenigs and Zach Schrader. Absent was Jacob Zawodny. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Attorney Mike Schmiedt was also present. Motion by Benita Uhl, second by Zach Schrader to approve the agenda. Ayes: All. Motion carried. Motion by Zach Schrader, second by Joe Hogan to open the public hearing regarding the maximum property tax levy. Tim Jessen and Nikay Schrader had some questions regarding the budget increase and what was the main cause of the increase. Council stated that the biggest increase was property and liability insurance and worker’s compensation insurance. They asked what the city does to try and reduce costs and different items were discussed that have been addressed. It was also discussed that the amenities that are offered in Mapleton does cost the city and eliminating some of those would be a difficult decision. It was felt that the amenities help provide a draw for residents. Motion by Benita Uhl, second by Abby Koenigs to approve closing the public hearing. Ayes: All. Motion carried.
